PARKERSBURG CATHOLIC BEATS CALHOUN IN SECTIONAL OPENER

Playing on its home court Parkersburg Catholic poured in 12 three-point goal Saturday night en route to a 72-49 victory over Calhoun in the first round of the Class A sectional tournament.

With the win the Crusaders advance to a Tuesday sectional semifinal game at Williamstown. For Calhoun the 2015-16 season comes to a close.

The Crusaders started out hot from outside and made five treys in the first quarter to grab a 16-10 lead. Overall, PCHS had 13 three-point shots in the game as three players scored in double figures.

Logan Plummer led the way with eight treys and a game high 25 points. Cade Ullman followed with four treys and 20 points while AJ Collins added 16 points while hitting one trey.

Calhoun was behind by double figures nearly all the way but in the third quarter came out and trimmed the led to nine, 46-37. But Plummer hit a three from near half-court at the buzzer to put the Crusaders back on top by 12 heading into the fourth.

Calhoun stayed close for a while by leading scorers Ethyn Miller and Zack Yanero fouled out and the Crusaders pushed the lead out to 20 before sending in the subs, who finished out the game against the Calhoun subs.

Miller and Dylan Heiney led Calhoun, 11-10, with 13 each while Yanero added 11 and eight rebounds.

Austin Gribble added four, Dakota Jarvis three, with nine rebounds, while Ben Frederick and Caden Hicks scored two each. Nick Murphy, Soney Wilson and Trevor Carder both played but did not score.
