CALHOUN GIRLS BASKETBALL TIED FOR SECOND MOST WINS IN SCHOOL HISTORY

With their tenth win of the season the Calhoun Varsity Girls Basketball team moved into a tie for the second most wins in school history. The ten wins is most since the 91-92 season.

Calhoun crossed into double digit wins with a season sweep of Wirt County with a 56-45 win on Wednesday. Makayla Smith led all scorers with 31 points shooting 18-21 from the free throw line. Taylor Garrett added 12 points, Carissa Yoak and Tori Allen added 4 each. Katie Jones and Ashely Hersman each added two and Kaylea Bennett scored one.

Aleah Dye and Kinley Hosey played but did not not score. Smith grabbed 13 rebounds Katie Jones was second with 9. Tori Allen still ended with 6 rebounds despite some "questionable calls" limiting her time on the floor. Calhoun used a 26 point fourth quarter to pull away at the end.

Calhoun dropped a 64 to 50 game at Wood County Christian on Tuesday. Katie Jones lead Calhoun with 11 points. Carissa Yoak, and Makayla Smith each had ten, Tori Allen added 9 and Ashley Hersman put in 8, Aleah Dye and Whitney Stevens each scored one. Kinley Hosey and Kaylea Bennett played but did not score.

Tori Allen continued her rebounding ways with a game high 12 boards. Katie Jones grabbed 10 for a double double. Carissa was one rebound away from a double double of her own with 9.

For the season Makayla Smith is averaging 17.8 points a game, Katie Jones is second with 6.6. Tori Allen is leading in rebounds averaging 7.6 a game, Taylor Garrett is second with 6.5. Makayla Smith is averaging 2.7 steals a game, Taylor Garrett is at 2.3 and Tori Allen averages 2 steals a game also.

Calhoun will travel to Doddridge to play in the opening round of the Sectional Today starting at 7.
