CLENDENIN ARMED ROBBERY - A Kanawha County man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a Clendenin convenience store. Kajun Cossin, 30, of Clendenin, was arraigned on a first-degree armed robbery.

Deputies say they responded to the 7-Eleven, also known as Shaffers, on Spencer Road.

According to the criminal complaint, when deputies got on scene, they spoke with an employee who said that a man, wearing a blue mask or hoodie covering his face and blue jeans, came into the store, showed a knife and demanded money and cigarettes.

The employee said he then took off on foot toward Spencer Road.

Deputies say several employees at the store had reviewed surveillance video and based on prior interactions, believed the suspect was Cossin.

Another employee told deputies that in a previous conversation, Cossin had mentioned that he was planning to rob a different convenience store.

Deputies say a K-9 was able to track the man's scent to a home on Leuven Lane in Clendenin, where they found Cossin. Deputies say the track went 1.5 miles, through several creek crossings, took 55 minutes and was done in sub-freezing temperatures with snow falling.

According to the complaint, deputies then went into the home to ensure no one else was inside because of the nature of the crime.

When they got in, they found a woman and two young children asleep.

Deputies say the woman told them that Cossin had come home and told her that he had robbed Shaffers. They say she then went on to tell them that he was going to rob the store before he left the house.

He told her that he needed to wash his clothes to remove any evidence.

Deputies say they also found cigarettes and money matching the amount that was taken from the store on Cossin.

Cossin is being held on a $100,000 bond.
