Arnold Glide Burns, 95 - Looneyville

Arnold Glide Burns, 95, of Looneyville WV, died Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at the Roane General Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit, Spencer, after an extended illness.

He was born August 8, 1920, at Tariff, a son of the late Leslie and Hazel Simmons Burns. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Charles Burns who lived in South Carolina; one brother, Charles Burns who lived at Stollings, W.Va.; and one sister, Helen G. Jarvis who lived at Looneyville.

Mr. Burns was a retired construction worker, an Army veteran of World War II and attended the Hays Fork Community Church. Also, he enjoyed gardening, baseball, gospel music and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Nora Burns; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Sue Burns of Looneyville; one sister, Madeline R. Boggs of Spencer; two grandsons, Terry Burns of Spencer and Tim Burns of North Carolina; one granddaughter, Anita of Illinois; several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 7 at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Ron Fisher officiating. Burial, with military honors accorded by the Army Honor Guard, will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
