Philip Daniel "Stretch" Carpenter, 56, of Clio, West Virginia, died peacefully in his sleep on January 27, 2016 at the Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, after a long battle with cancer.

He was born January 30, 1959 in Charleston WV, a son of Phillip Carpenter of Clio and the late JoAnn Dotson Carpenter.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Eva Nichols; paternal grandparents, Edward and Mildred Carpenter.

In addition to his father, survivors include his wife of 36 years, Kathy Carpenter; daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Brian Fields of Harmony WV, Nikki Carpenter at home, Andrea and Bryan Smith of Arnoldsburg WV; brother and sister-in-law, Benny and Diannia Carpenter of Harmony; sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Lewis Hill Willow Springs NC; four grandchildren, Blake, Brianna, Ava and Dakota; several nieces and nephews; and faithful dog, Dixie.

Stretch was a former pipe liner and member of the Local 798.

He requested there not be a visitation or funeral. At a later date, there will be a private memorial service for family and close friends.

John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, is in charge of arrangements.
