William "Dayton" McClung, 86 - Reedy

William "Dayton" McClung, 86, of Reedy, West Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Miletree Center in Spencer, West Virginia.

Dayton was born December 24, 1929 in Reedy a son of the late Clyde S. and Eulala Cain McClung.

He was a 1948 Spencer High School graduate, a veteran of the US Army proudly serving his country in Germany, and was a member of the Reedy Baptist Church. Prior to his retirement from the Roane County School System as a bus driver, he worked as a truck driver for State Construction and did home construction. After retirement, he drove a bus for Cross Country Express.

Dayton was an avid and loyal supporter of WVU Mountaineer football, being a season ticket holder for over 50 years. He traveled all over the country attending WVU bowl games and even went to Hawaii for a season football game.

Dayton's hobbies were going to auctions, hunting, and working puzzles. He pitched horseshoes in the Parkersburg and Marietta horseshoe league and was a state horseshoe champion in his class. In his younger years, he played baseball for Reedy and then slow pitch softball.

Dayton will be greatly missed by his niece, Linda Sue McClung of Mineral Wells, West Virginia; nephews, Randy (Linda) McClung and Kent McClung, both of Reedy, and John (Janie) Wycoff of Palestine, West Virginia; great-nieces, Donna Hamilton, Nancy Wycoff, Diane Basye, Shirley Skipper, and Jackie Shew; great-nephew, Richard Wycoff; and cousins, Bill Leavitt and Carl Cain and Reta Wycoff, wife of his late nephew, Dick Wycoff.

In addition to his parents, and nephew, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Emerson and Howard McClung; and a sister, Marjorie McCoy.

The family wishes to thank Dayton's special friends, Arlie Keffer, Jim Carpenter, Tom Thompson and Paul Spencer who visited and called often during his illness.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Reedy Baptist Church on Blair Street in Reedy with Pastor Greg Swisher officiating. Visiting hours will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday at the TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME, Spencer and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the McClung Cemetery. Reedy. Visitors are encouraged to wear blue and gold in honor of Dayton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Reedy Baptist Church, c/o Jeanie Downey, 3798 Parkersburg, Road, Reedy WV 25270 or make a donation in memory of Dayton to the WV Mountaineer Athletic Club, West Virginia University, PO Box 877, Morgantown WV 26507-0877.
