WVU EXTENSION SERVICE TO HOST MAPLE TAPPING WORKSHOP SATURDAY

Are you interested in learning how to tap maple trees and produce maple syrup?

Join us for the Backyard Maple Tapping Workshop and learn from Mike Rechlin, an educator with many years of experience in producing maple syrup.

The following topics will be the workshops focus: choosing the trees you should tap, proper tapping procedures, how a tree responds to the injury of a taphole, sap to syrup.

The WVU Extension Service- Gilmer County will host the Backyard Maple Tapping Workshop, Saturday, January 30, starting at 10:00 a.m., Gilmer County Recreation Center, Shawnee Hall.

Participants will receive educational materials as well as three spiles to take home and tap their own trees. Portions of the workshop will take place in the field so dress for the current weather the day of the workshop. The cost to attend the class is $10.00 a person, however youth can attend for free.
