NO POWERBALL WINNER SATURDAY: NOW $1.5 BILLION - Biggest In World History, WV Winner Jack Whittaker, "I Wish I'd Torn That Ticket Up"

(01/12/2016)
The Powerball Jackpot has now raised to $1.5 billion after no winner Saturday night, and no winner at last Wednesday night's drawing, and could go even higher.

The most recent Powerball drawing produced five $50,000 winners in West Virginia.

State lottery officials say those tickets were sold in Wheeling, St. Albans, Spencer, Kenova and Wellsburg. Nearly 104,000 tickets sold in West Virginia won a prize of some sort in Saturday's drawing.

This is the largest jackpot in Powerball ever, and also the largest jackpot of any lottery game in world history.

You're about 304 times more likely to get struck by lightning than you are to win the Powerball jackpot.

That hasn't stopped West Virginians and people around the country from flocking to convenience stores to buy a tiny chance at massive wealth.

Powerball is played in 44 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
