INTERRUPTED HEIST - A convenience store clerk took matters into his own hands when a masked man with a knife tried to rob the store in Huntington. The robbery happened at the Marathon shortly after midnight on Thursday.

Huntington Police arrested and charged David Staats, 55, of Huntington with robbery.

According to the criminal complaint, Staats walked into the store wearing a mask, took out a knife and demanded the clerk to empty the register. The clerk gave him $134.

Another clerk saw this was happening and went behind Staats. At that point, Staats swung the knife at that clerk, but missed. The clerk then maced him.

As Staats tried to run out the front door, the clerk tackled him and held him on the ground until police got there.

Staats was arraigned Thursday morning on the robbery charge. His bond was set at $100,000. He remains in the Western Regional Jail.
