Cleora "Cleo" Lawson Newell of Orma will be celebrating her 90th birthday on December 30.

She was born on Spruce near Frozen at the edge of the Bear Fork Wilderness.

Cleo was born the 8th of 12 children to John and Zanna Lawson. Her siblings are Bert, Carl, Stella, Minnie, Tressie, Ray, Gae, Zella, Denzil, Edgar, and Helen. All are deceased but Denzil, Helen, and Cleo.

She is the granddaughter of historic Bear Fork settler Samuel Lawson.

Cleo was married 59 years to Gerald Newell Jr. They are the parents of 3 children, John, Paul, and Linda. She has 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and cousins.

She still lives in her own home at Orma. She likes to read and keep up on the news, formerly doing a lot of hand quilting. Her quilts cover the beds of her children, relatives, and friends.

She has lived most of her life in Calhoun County.
