MAN DIES IN STANDOFF - A man who was engaged in a standoff with police for several hours was found dead in his home Sunday in Martinsburg.

Police say when they responded to the home of 45-year-old Timothy Myers, they found his wife hiding in the bushes outside, who told officers that her husband was inside with a shotgun and that he had fired a shot at her.

A gunshot was heard inside. Police said Myers had a .45 caliber pistol, a .357 revolver, a shotgun, a .380 pistol and an AR-15.

During negotiations with Myers, police said he told them not to try to enter the home, and expressed the desire to end his life several times.

The Martinsburg Special Response Time entered the residence through the rear door after losing communication. They found Myers in an upstairs bedroom after he appeared to have overdosed on prescription painkillers and alcohol. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A following search warrant concluded shots had been fired inside the home. Myers' body was taken to Berkeley Medical Center for an autopsy.
