WV STILL HAS CORRECTION OFFICER SHORTAGE

(12/21/2015)
West Virginia is still experiencing a shortage of corrections officers, according to state Public Safety Spokesman Larry Messina.

"Recruitment efforts certainly continue, and to some degree they've been met with success," Messina said. "But vacancies do remain a challenge, as does turnover, particularly among our entry level correction officers, levels one and two."

There are 1,200 corrections officers throughout the state with 200 vacancies.

Messina pointed out that the challenge was not only finding people, but also keeping them.
