FIRST SNOW FLURRY AND BLACK ICE CAUSES THREE CALHOUN WRECKS

The first winter snow showers and black ice hit Calhoun Friday night causing at least three vehicle accidents.

Fortunately, no one received any serious injuries in the crashes.

With temperatures dropping into the 20s, highways in northern Calhoun got slick, the Department of Highways dispatched salt trucks.

Five Forks car crash

8:30 p.m. - A driver lost control of his car on N. Calhoun Highway (Rt. 16) at Five Forks in a sharp turn that has been the site of numerous accidents.

The front of the vehicle went into the hitch of a parked trailer, causing damage, but no injury.

Truck crashes on side near Cabot Station

8:56 p.m. - A pick-up truck lost control on black ice in a sharp curve just west of Cabot Station on W. Little Kanawha Highway (Rt. 5), landing on its side against the hillside.

The driver was not immediately located, reports said the driver did not have a valid operators license.

Vehicle lands in Phillips Run creek bed

9:39 p.m. - A male driver of a car lost control of his vehicle on Phillips Run, south of Grantsville, So. Calhoun Highway (Rt. 16).

The vehicle landed upside down in Phillips Run.

Responders said the driver was picked-up and taken to a local residence, apparently uninjured.

Minnie Hamilton EMS and the Grantsville VFD responded to the incidents, investigated by the State Police and Calhoun Sheriffs Department.
