VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL HAS 3-2 RECORD

On Thursday December 10th the Calhoun Varsity girls' basketball team defeated South Harrison by a score of 49-19. Calhoun outscored the Hawks in every quarter and held a 24-7 halftime lead. 8 Players scored for Calhoun including four three's by four different players. Calhoun shot 17-27 from the free throw line. Calhoun was lead my Makayla Smith with 24 points followed by Katie Jones with 7, Taylor Garrett had 5, Carissa Yoak, Ashley Hersman, Kaylea Bennett, and Alisha Fulks all had three. Aleah Dye had one point Tori Allen and Kinley Hosey played and did not score.

Tori Allen continued her excellent play ending the night tied with a team high 10 rebounds along with her 5 steals. Along with her twenty four points Makayla added ten rebounds five steals, and three assists. Calhoun used a full court pressure man until calling it off with the game in hand half way through the third quarter.

Calhoun lost its first game of the year as it travel to Doddridge on Monday December 15. Calhoun played its worst game of the year losing to a 3-0 Doddridge team 66-44. Doddridge outscored Calhoun 22-7 in the first quarter and dominated the game throughout. Calhoun did not have the intensity on defense and it showed. Makayla Smith led all scorers with twenty eight points. Katie Jones added eight, Alisha Fulks had three. Hannah Allen had two, Ashley Hersman, Tori Allen, and Aleah Dye all had one. Taylor Garrett, Carissa Yoak, Kinley Hosey and Kaylea Bennett all played and didn't not score. Tori Allen lead the team with twelve rebounds, Makayla Smith was second with seven.

Calhoun lost its second game of the year to Braxton County 66-36. Calhoun played well with Braxton using good fundamental defense trailing 19-15 at half. Calhoun did not come out with same defensive approach in the second half and did not box out as well and Braxton's offense got rolling, scoring twenty four points in the third quarter. Calhoun's offense struggled all night. Makayla Smith lead Calhoun with fifteen points, Katie Jones was second with ten. Taylor Garrett added five, Carissa Yoak had three, Tori Allen chipped in with two, and Alisha Fulks scored one. Ashley Hersman, Kinley Hosey, and Aleah Dye played and did not score. Makayla Smith lead the team with seven rebounds, Tori Allen was second with five.

Calhoun Junior Varsity lost its first two game of the season to Doddridge, and Braxton. Against Braxton Alisha Fulks lead all scorers with ten points Carissa Yoak was second with five, Whitney Stevens added four, Amber Garrett had three. Ashely Hersman, Katie Jones, and Kinley Hosey all had two. Hannah Allen had one. Brogan Richards, Erica Heiney, Makayla Toney, Kaityln Toney, Kaylea Bennett all played and didn't not score. In the Second JV game against Braxton Katie Jones lead all the team with five points and Carissa Yoak was second with four. Whitney Stevens, Kaylea Bennett, and Alisha Fulks each had three.

For the season Makayla Smith is averaging twenty one points a game along with her 6.4 rebounds per game. Katie Jones is second on the team averaging 9.8 points per game. Tori Allen is leading the team in rebounding averaging 9 rebounds along with her 2.2 steals per game. Taylor Garrett is averaging 5.4 rebounds per game along with 1.6 blocks per game.

Calhoun travels to Webster for a Varsity and JV game Thursday.
