WVDEP AWARDS $2.2 MIL RECYCLING GRANTS - Cabot Recycling Gets $98,631 Operations Grant

(12/10/2015)
The WVDEP has awarded $2.2 million dollars recycling grants to 35 recipients in 26 WV counties, including Calhoun.

The Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority, which operates Cabot Recycling, is receiving operational funds in the amount of $98,631.

The grants are through Rehabilitation Environmental Action Program (REAP) Recycling Assistance.

Cabot Recycling has been recognized as one of the best operating recycling centers in the Mountain State, but is facing closure next July.

Dominion Resources canceled the center's 99-year lease, announcing the company is putting the property on the market.

Major efforts have been made by the community to save the regional center, asking Dominion to donate the property to the center or renew the 99-year lease.

The grant covers assistance with net wages, utilities for the recycling center, a baler, box dumper, equipment maintenance, lettering for box truck and printing for the county-wide program.

Other regional grants were made to Braxton County Solid Waste $25,800 and Glenville State College $31,133.
