CALHOUN GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM OPENS SEASON 2-0

Calhoun Varsity Girls basketball team starts the season with two victories.

The Red Devils hosted Webster and used a 25 point fourth quarter to beat the AA LKC Conference opponent. The Red Devils outscored Webster by 15 in the final stanza to win a 51-42 contest.

Calhoun was lead in scoring by Makayla Smith with 18 points, Tori Allen and Katie Jones each added 9, Alisha Fulks scored 5, Ashley Hersman had 4, Kaylea Bennett and Taylor Garrett each had 3, Hannah Allen, Carissa Yoak, Aleah Dye, and Kinley Hosey all played but did not score.

Tori Allen finished the game with a team high 11 rebounds and was one point away from a double-double. Taylor Garrett finished the game with 7 steals. The Red Devils full court pressure wore down Webster and forced 6 consecutive turnovers to break the game open in the fourth. Calhoun used 11 players total and made 6 three pointers by 6 different players in the contest.

On Monday December 7th Calhoun made the 2 hour trip to face Hannan. Calhoun used its bench and pressure defense to cruise to a 61-36 victory. Makayla Smith led all scorers with 20 points. Katie Jones was next highest with 15 and Kaylea Bennett added 9, Alisha Fulks scored 7 Ashley Hersman scored 4, Taylor Garrett scored 3 Aleah Dye had 2 and Tori Allen scored 1. Hannah Allen, Kinley Hosey, and Carissa Yoak played and did not score.

Tori Allen lead the team with 7 rebounds, Alisha Fulks had six. Taylor Garrett, and Katie Jones each had 6 steals, while Makayla Smith also had 4 steals to go with her 4 rebounds.

Calhoun's next game is home Thursday December 10, verses South Harrison starting at 7.
