GLENVILLE STATE EXPANDS DUAL CREDIT TO BRAXTON COUNTY

(12/08/2015)
Glenville State College president Peter Barr is a big fan of dual-credit programs like the partnership offered by his school and expanded services to Braxton County High School.

The program exposes students to the rigors of college and allows them to accrue college credit hours.

"All my life in higher education, we've talked or heard talk about the necessity for the college and the high schools to be connected," he said.

Barr contended it's the responsibility of higher learning institutions to make sure students are able to work effectively when they enter school.

The scholarship is primarily for residents of Braxton County, but Gilbert said they are looking to expand the program to other areas.

GSC has had a dual credit program in Calhoun, but some grads experienced problems.

Calhoun Superintendent of Schools Tim Woodward said that problems for Calhoun High School students with Glenville State's dual credit program had been resolved, indicating an agreement to grandfather local students under the original courses they took as dual credit would count toward their major, apparently without having to pay additional costs.
