A Parkersburg man, Joseph Craig Thorne, 48, has been charged with driving under the influence causing death.

Police say Thorne's ATV crashed into the back of Stump's ATV, causing his death.

Reedy fire chief Josh Hand told Spencer Newspapers that the men were part of a group staying at a hunting cabin near Reedy.

Hand said the ATVs were heading back to camp after dark, traveling at a high rate of speed 50-60 mph.

Reports said that Stump slowed his ATV when his hat blew from his head, and then Thorne's ATV struck him.

Stump landed between the ATVs and died instantly, said the fire chief.

Court records say that Thorne was charged in Roane Magistrate Court and taken to jail, then released on $30,000 bond.
