WV KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - Officers Kill Fugitive Near Lewis-Braxton Line, Fairmont Woman Murders Woman With Shot To Head

(11/10/2015)
OFFICERS KILL FUGITIVE - Reports say one person was killed and another injured after officers attempted to arrest a fugitive in Lewis County Monday near the Lewis-Braxton line.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, deputy marshals, along with West Virginia State Police, were attempting to arrest a fugitive in a rural location when they were fired upon. Officers returned fire, striking both fugitives, killing one and injuring the other.

West Virginia State Police will investigate the incident.

No other details available.

WOMAN SHOTS WOMAN IN HEAD - A Fairmont woman was arrested for murder early Monday morning after Fairmont police said she shot another woman in the head.

Alma Barnett, 46, shot Carol Zurasky, 46, of Fairmont, in the forehead with a .22 caliber revolver, according to police.

Police said Barnett made comments to witnesses prior to the shooting that if Zurasky came to her apartment, she would shoot her. These comments were following an altercation Barnett and Zurasky had earlier in the evening, police said.

Police also said physical evidence at the scene, along with witness statements, contradict Barnett's account of what happened.

"She described a confrontation that lasted several minutes, but we don't believe it lasted that long and that she reacted pretty quick with the shooting," said Chief Steve Shine of the Fairmont Police Department. "There was no evidence at the scene indicating self defense."

Witnesses told police that Barnett did not appear to be fearful of Zurasky when the comment about shooting her was made.

Barnett is in North Central Regional Jail. She is being held without bond.

LOGAN COUNTY SHOOTINGS - Two people have been flown Monday to the hospital after a shooting in Logan.

The shooting happened about 7 a.m. Monday on Charles Street.

Their conditions are unknown, but the police chief says they both are in surgery.

No arrests have been made and the incident is still under investigation.

No other details available.

HUNTINGTON STABBING - One person was taken to the hospital after a reported stabbing over the weekend in Huntington.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. when a woman flagged down another woman, telling her a man had been stabbed.

The victim was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
