James Phillip "Jim" Riddel, 80 - Vienna, VA

James Phillip "Jim" Riddel, 80, of Vienna, VA, formerly of Grantsville WV, died on November 6, 2015 at the Adler Center.

He was the beloved husband of Nancy A. Riddel; father of Jamie Daughtry, James P. Riddel, Jr., John P. Riddel, Jacquelin P. Hill, Maureen B. Stalcup and Jeffrey P. Riddel; stepfather of Vickie A. Miller, Linda E. Davis, Stephen A. Cloud and Jason T. Cloud and brother of Edi Lou Butler. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Mr. Riddel was a highly decorated retired homicide detective with the Fairfax County Police Department. He was recognized by Parade Magazine as One of the Ten Most Outstanding Police Officers in 1971; in 1970 and 1979 he received the A. Heath Onthank Award, recognizing him as Fairfax County Government's Most Outstanding Employee.

He received the Outstanding Meritorious Service Award from the from the Fairfax County Police Association in 1978; the Virginia Jaycees name him the Most Outstanding Police Officer in Fairfax County in 1971; the Virginia Jaycees named him the Most Outstanding Police Officer of the Year for the State of Virginia in 1972; Outstanding Young Men of America Award in 1971; He was named Most Outstanding Police Officer by the Arlington-Fairfax Elks Lodge #2188 in 1970.

He received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 1970; He was named the Fairfax County Police Investigator of the Year in 1969 and the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce recognized his Outstanding Service to Fairfax County Citizens from 1960 to 1980.

Prior to joining the Fairfax County Police Department, Mr. Riddel served with the U. S. Marines. Family and friends are invited to Mr. Riddel's Life Celebration at Money and King Funeral Home, 171 Maple Ave., West, Vienna, VA on Friday, November 13 from 5-8 PM.

Funeral services will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, 711 Spring St., SE, Vienna, VA on Saturday, November 14 at 11 AM. Interment Flint Hill Cemetery.
