The Quilt of Valor began in the home of Blue Star mom Catherine Roberts in 2003, who wanted to honor her son who was returning from a year-long deployment in Iraq. Her quilt and the quilts that followed have been presented as a tangible reminder of our appreciation, gratitude and loving "welcome home" that is deserving of our current and former military personal.

Chris Lacy, who resides in Big Bend, WV with his wife, Anne, and two sons, Chris L. and Bradley, is a member, since 2005, of the Brooksville Baptist Missionary Church. Chris is employed by the Calhoun County Board of Education. He is the son of the late Ellen and Frank Lacy Sr.

Beginning his military career in 1994 as a junior in high school, Chris spent the next 13 years in the Army Reserves. After many tours of overseas deployments, Chris left the Reserves after an injury, while on deployment, in 2008.

What began as a loving tribute from a mother to her son, has now become a national grassroots community service effort. Over 125,000 Quilts of Valor have been presented nationally since it's beginnings in 2003.

Each quilt is stitched with love, prayers and healing thoughts for the troops, former and current, who have been touched by war. In the making and presenting of this Quilt of Valor, The Unbreakable Threads Quilt Group expresses to Chris and all military personal, former and current, their appreciation and a heartfelt thank you for your service, sacrifice and for your valor.
