CLAY PROSECUTOR RESIGNS - "I Got Tired Of The Malarkey"

(12/03/2002)
Clay County Prosecutor Jeff Davis is resigning early, ending a more than ten year career in the position. Davis told the Clay Communicator he was quitting because of financial reasons, returning to private practice.

"My private practice has just been slashed by two-thirds. Out of three banks I was doing the most work for, two have their own attorneys now."

Davis said, keeping the $37,000 prosecutor position would leave little time to increase his private practice.

Davis has often been the subject of unconfirmed rumors regarding his use of drugs, and more recently that he is under investigation by federal officials. A recent rumor, obviously with no validating facts, said he had overdosed on drugs.

"When you voluntarily put yourself out in public, you ask for rumors and nasty things to be said about you. I'm tired of that stuff too. That did play a part in the decision," he said. "I got tired of all the malarkey that was unnecessarily said."
