(01/01/2001)
VIOLENT HOLD-UP - Boone County authorities arrested a man they claim held a convenience store clerk at knife-point during a robbery Monday.

Police say Robert Scott Clark II, 23, of Omar, entered the Hatfield-McCoy One Stop convenience store, attacked the on-duty clerk and made off with a small amount of cash.

"We felt is was pretty concerning due to the violent nature of the encounter," said Boone County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Chad Barker. "He actually attacked the clerk. She received medical treatment at the ER after the event. They were non-life threatening injuries, but very concerning the way he conducted himself during the robbery." Barker said the woman was preparing food for the day and was unaware the man had even entered the store. He blindsided her with the attack.

"Absolutely, the violence came first and the demand for money came after," said Barker.

Clark is charged with armed robbery, a could face 10 years to life in prison if convicted.
