ADAM ANDREW JONES PLEADS GUILTY TO LESSER CHARGE - Original Charges Included Attempted Murder

(10/16/2015)
Ritchie County Circuit Court has issued a sentencing order for Adam Andrew Jones, related to a case where the Big Springs man was charged with attempted murder, malicious assault, domestic battery and abduction of his wife, Deanna Nelson Jones.

Judge Timothy Sweeney accepted a plea agreement by means of an Alford/ Kennedy Plea to a misdemeanor offense of domestic battery.

An Alford/Kennedy Plea means a defendant in a criminal case does not admit to the criminal act and asserts innocence, the defendant admits that the evidence the prosecution has would be likely to persuade a judge or jury to find the defendant guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Jones was sentenced to one year in North Central Regional Jail, with 142 days of the jail time served at time of sentencing.

Last March, Ritchie authorities arrested Jones and incarcerated him for violation of home confinement.

Judge Timothy Sweeney issued the order, according to court records, after Jones tested positive for meth and alcohol that was found at his residence by authorities, a violation of his release terms.
