(10/10/2015)
WHEELING SHOOTINGS - Wheeling Police said one person was killed and another was injured Friday in a shooting in downtown Wheeling.

Dispatchers received a call about 1:15 a.m. reporting shots fired, according to Wheeling Police Chief Shawn Schwertfeger. Schwertfeger said prior to arriving at that scene, a male gunshot victim walked in to the lobby of the Wheeling Police Department. Officers then located a second gunshot victim in an alley.

"Both men were taken to a local hospital where the victim located on 15th Street was pronounced dead," Schwertfeger said.

"The other victim is being treated for his injuries." Police said the investigation is active and they believe the shooter is still at large. Schwertfeger said this is the first homicide investigation in Wheeling since 2013.

GREENBRIER HOMICIDE — One person is dead and a second hospitalized with gunshot wounds after an incident near White Sulphur Springs in Greenbrier County.

Deputies were called to a home at Neola around 4:30 p.m.

Dead at the scene from a gunshot wound was Glenda Hull, 41, who lived at the home. About an hour later deputies entered a home across the road and found a second victim. Larry Hoke, 67, who had suffered a gunshot wound and was flown to a hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.

"We're still investigating and officers are still following up on the information and going through the evidence," said Greenbrier County Chief Deputy Bruce Sloan.

"Preliminarily we can say there was an exchange of gunfire at the residence of Glenda Hull."

Sloan confirmed Hoke is Hull's step-father, but would not speculate on what may have prompted the confrontation which led to the gunfire.

He said it's unclear who shot whom, but the two victims were the only ones in the house at the time of the shooting, two weapons were used in the incident, and it's believed there were two shooters.

"There was an exchange of gunfire at her residence and both of those individuals received gunshot wounds," Sloan said. "But at this point I don't want to release any other information regarding the actual shooting itself."
