CALHOUN CIRCUIT COURT PROCESSES CASES IN GRANTSVILLE

Calhoun Circuit Court was in session with Judge Thomas Evans presiding.

Adam Parsons appeared for arraignment on his charges of Malicious Assault and Conspiracy. His case was set for a pre-trial hearing on December 10th and for jury trial on January 19th, 2016, according to prosecutor Shannon Johnson.

Joseph Kute appeared for an arraignment on his charges of Illegal Possession of an Explosive Device, Wanton Endangerment with an explosive device, and several misdemeanors.

Kute's case is set for a pre-trial hearing on January 21st and for trial on March 8th. His jury trial set to begin Monday and was continued and will come on at the same time as his new case.

Dennis Sears appeared for arraignment on his charges involving sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, or custodian. His hearing was continued as his attorney was not able to attend. He will have an arraignment hearing on November 30th.

Prosecutor Johnson said Brian Smith's trial on charges of Malicious Assault and Sexual Assault was continued. His case has been set for entry of a plea on October 8th.

Gary Ferrell appeared for trial on his charges for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and for being a felon in possession of a firearm. His case was continued on his attorney's motion until January 19th for jury trial.

Justin Hannah failed to appear for trial on his charges of forgery and uttering. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest.

Adam James appeared for trial. Prior to jury selection, his attorneys announced that he wished to accept the State's plea offer. Mr. James entered a no contest plea to attempt to commit unlawful assault, a felony. He will be sentenced on December 10th. (See additional story)
