SECOND-RANKED SOUTH HARRISON OVERPOWERS CALHOUN, 48-13

On a cold and rainy night in Lost Creek Calhoun made just enough mistakes to allow second-ranked South Harrison to pull away for a 48-13 victory over the Red Devils.

The Red Devils stayed close to the 5-0 Hawks early on but miscues - fumbles, intercepted passes and penalties - allowed South Harrison to take a 19-7 halftime lead.

Calhoun cut into the Hawks' lead once again in the third quarter to make it 27-13 but after that South Harrison scored 21 unanswered points to set the final score.

Calhoun had touchdowns from Casey Ritchie on a one-yard run and on a pass to Devon McKown for a 13-yard score.

Cole Ritchie led the 4-2 Red Devils with 85 yards rushing on 12 carries while Seth Moore added 26 yards and Casey Ritchie 11.

Ethyn Miller led the team in receiving with 81 yards on five receptions while McKown had 73 yards on four receptions.

Calhoun played without starters Dakota Jarvis and Johnny Taylor, both sidelined with the flu.

As a team Calhoun was able to move the ball against the Hawks' staunch defense - the 13 points Calhoun scored was the most South Harrison has allowed this season - but two fumbles and an interception kept the Red Devils from doing more damage.

The loss may knock the 13th-ranked Red Devils out of the top 16 (the top 16 get playoff spots) while, despite the win, South Harrison may be leapfrogged by St, Marys which had a huge win over Williamstown Friday night.

Calhoun returns to action at home Friday night when it welcomes unbeaten St. Marys to Mount Zion. South Harrison is on the road at Webster County.
