FINAL REQUEST: HUR HERALD NEEDS YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT NOW - Without Your Donations, Herald Cannot Continue

(09/30/2015)
The Herald is in its 19th year, starting a 17th year on-line.

The annual request for readers to help keep it going is now.

The Herald needs a minimum amount of money to continue the non-profit shoe-string operation.

While we all work for free, including our writing contributors, money is needed to keep it going, more recently we've had additional costs related to hacking.

The costs, in addition to servers and Internet access, are associated with upgrades, equipment replacement and the operation of a vehicle to collect news and stories.

Last year, donations were low, although readership continues to increase, but some readers did most generously help with the project.

People generally take for-granted that which is free, and assume that it will continue.

We are grateful for those who purchase banner advertising, but that advertising meets only a part of the operating costs.

The goal has been to provide local and regional news, report commonplace events and record the history of life in the mountains of West Virginia.

Further, the goal has been to create a vast archives of stories and photos that will become a permanent resource for future generations.

The Herald had over 2.5 million visitors last year, and is among West Virginia's most widely read Internet newspapers.

WE GRACIOUSLY REQUEST YOUR SUPPORT NOW

While many Herald readers donate $75, $100 or more, we suggest you consider an annual subscription donation of $50, although donations of any amount will certainly count and be appreciated.
