Eugene "Gene" H. Whytsell, 88 - Parkersburg

Eugene "Gene" H. Whytsell, 88, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015 at Camden Clark Medical Center.

Gene was born April 20, 1927, in Calhoun County, W.Va., a son of the late Simon Clinton and Laura Kerby Whytsell.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served in Germany. Gene was retired as a carpet salesman for Dils Brothers Department Store. He was a member of Mt. Olivet Masonic Lodge No. 3 and a 64-year 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member of American Legion, Parkersburg Post #15 and VFW #1212.

Gene is survived by two sisters, Geneva Morgan of Georgia, and Katherine "Kate" Ladd and husband, Harold, of Cutler, Ohio; a brother, Kose Whytsell and wife, Emma Joan, of Parkersburg; a sister-in-law, Vicki Matheny of Belpre, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, June Swan Whytsell; a brother, Howard Whytsell; and two sisters, Louise Nevitt and Jewell Marsh.

The family would like to extend thanks to special friends for the excellent care and friendship provided to Gene: Dan and Teresa Blaker, Tom and Doris Collins, Larry and Connie Hill, Kenny and Kathy Larkins; nephew, Harold Whytsell; and sister, Kate Ladd.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015, at Sand Hill Cemetery in Long Bottom, Ohio, with Pastor Dwane Porter officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg.
