| Gatha Romine Cummings, 89 years and 69 days of age, of Stover Fork Road, Spencer WV, passed away September 12, 2015 at Roane General Hospital after an extended illness. She was born July 5, 1926 at Zona, a daughter of the late Samuel Lewis Romine and Lillie Mae Davis Romine. She was a graduate of Walton High School, class of 1945, and attended Glenville State College. She retired from the Roane County Board of Education in the spring of 1988 where she served as a one-room school teacher, and after her children were older, she served as a teacher's aide. Her final years until her illness, were spent as a dedicated farm wife. Gatha experienced conversion to the Christian faith at Lebanon Methodist Church as a teenager, and she was an active member of the Cherry Valley Church for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Kenna; two half-brothers, Carl Romine and Clell Romine; and one infant daughter, Doris Irene Cummings. Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Lakin Cummings of Spencer, five children; Paul (Susie) Cummings of Walton, Alice (Frank) Tefft of Walker, Joyce (Stephen) Rogers of Reedy, Lois (Bobby) Dent of Spencer, and Karen Botkins of Ashville, NC. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be 11am, Monday, September 14, at John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Larry Jones officiating. Burial will be in the John Summers Cemetery, near Walton. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
