WV KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - Mercer Murder-Suicide

(09/10/2015)
MERCER MURDER-SUICIDE - The Mercer County Sheriff's Department says the fatal shootings of a couple are being investigated as a murder-suicide. Media outlets report that the sheriff's department identified the couple as 55-year-old Frederick Tawney and his wife, 48-year-old Laura Tawney.

The sheriff's department says Laura Tawney called Mercer County 911 on Monday evening and told dispatchers that her husband was pointing a gun at her.

The phone line went dead, and then Frederick Tawney called 911 and said he had killed his wife and planned to kill himself.

Deputies found the couple's bodies and a shotgun at their home outside just outside Athens.

WOMAN DOES PARKERSBURG ROBBERY - The Wood County Sheriff's Office is searching for the woman they say robbed a lottery cafe Wednesday in South Parkersburg.

It happened at the Emerald Isle Cafe along Gihon Road.

They say the suspect walked in with a mask over her face, armed with a handgun. Employees cooperated and the woman walked out with an undisclosed amount of cash.

She's described as a heavyset woman wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and camouflage pajama pants.
