CALHOUN GRAND JURY INDICTS EIGHT - Attempted Murder, Sexual Abuse Charges

The Grand Jury of Calhoun County met on September 1 after hearing cases presented by Prosecutor Shannon S. Johnson and after deliberation, the Grand Jury returned eight indictments.

Ryan Abramovich, 28, and Adam Parsons, 35, were indicted on one count of malicious assault, a felony, and one count of conspiracy, a felony.

It is alleged that the pair attacked Billy Ray Hardway at his home on the right fork of Crummies Creek on February 4, 2015. The case was investigated by Senior Trooper D. C. Moore of the West Virginia State Police.

Corey Bell, 32, and Shirley Czsaplinski, 36, of Grantsville, were indicted on one count of attempted murder, a felony, one count of malicious assault, a felony and one count of conspiracy, a felony.

The incident took place in south Grantsville on May 27, 2015 and involved life threatening injuries to Tinisha Chandler. The case was investigated by Chief Andrew Walker of the Grantsville Police Department.

Joseph Kute, 32, was indicted on one count of illegal possession of destructive devices, explosive materials or incendiary Devices, a felony.

Also one count of wanton endangerment involving destructive devices, explosive materials or incendiary devices, a felony. One count of obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor.

One count of fleeing from an officer by means other than the use of a vehicle, a misdemeanor and one count of brandishing a deadly weapon, a misdemeanor.

It is alleged that Kute possessed a blasting cap without a proper license and used the device during a stand-off with State Police on February 13, 2015 while they were attempting to execute an arrest warrant on him. Corporal J. B. Hunt presented the case to the Grand Jury.

Kute was indicted earlier on one count of malicious assault, a felony, and one count of battery, a misdemeanor. Kute allegedly attacked Johnny Capps and Geoffrey Shaffer in the parking lot of the Y Restaurant on June 17, 2014.

Dennis Sears, 34, was indicted on one count of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, or custodian, a felony. One count of sexual assault in the first degree, a felony and one count of sexual abuse in the first degree, a felony.

It is alleged that Sears engaged in sexual intercourse and sexual contact with a juvenile in his care that was eleven years of age. This case was investigated by Sheriff Carl Ballengee of the Calhoun Sheriff's Department.

Daniel Slider, 24, was indicted on one count of fleeing with reckless disregard, a felony; left of center, a misdemeanor; failure to use a turn signal, a misdemeanor; and two counts of providing alcohol to minors, both misdemeanors.

It is alleged that Slider fled from a traffic stop on December 26, 2014 at a high rate of speed, leading several officers with the Natural Resources Police and the West Virginia State Police on a chase over the roadways of Calhoun County.

The case was presented by Corporal J. B. Hunt of the West Virginia State Police.

Michael Knicely, 46, was indicted for one count of driving on a license revoked for DUI-Third or a subsequent offense, a felony. He was also indicted for and driving under the influence, a misdemeanor.

This case was investigated by Corporal J. B. Hunt of the West Virginia State Police and allegedly occurred on December 26, 2014.

Indictments returned against individuals are merely charges at this time and are not indications of guilt. All the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
