LOCKDOWN ON ROANE SCHOOLS LIFTED AFTER ANONYMOUS SHOOTING THREAT

(09/03/2015)
9/2 - Dispatchers said the lockdown at all Roane County schools has been lifted after the sheriff's office determined a shooting threat made via text message wasn't credible.

The lockdown was lifted about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Melissa Gilbert, director of Roane County 911.

Gilbert said classes will resume as normal.

Gilbert said the text message was sent from a cell phone that was pinging off a tower in Morgantown.

Students were placed on lockdown at about 11:50 a.m., minutes after a teacher received a threat about "a school."

The message didn't specify which school, so all county schools were subsequently placed on lockdown.

The investigation into the shooting threat is still ongoing by the sheriff's office.
