POLICE KILL MAN IN BANK HOLD-UP - A Bluefield man was killed after he and police officers exchanged shots with each other Tuesday morning.

Bluefield Police Chief Dennis Dillow said that shots were fired as the man left First Community Bank on Tuesday morning.

Police said Cedric Maurice Williams, 33, of Bluefield, initially tried to rob First Century Bank, left a package there and then fled to the other bank, which he then robbed.

State Police spokesman Lt. Michael Baylous said Williams was armed with a semi-automatic rifle and a handgun.

He said he didn't know yet who fired first, but that should be determined as the investigation progresses.

Police detained a second person originally described as a suspect, but later cleared that person of involvement.

There were no other injuries.

A bomb squad examined the package left at the bank.
