Braxton County is known for its rolling hills, scenic lakes, and ... giant monster chairs.

"Every year in the past fives years, interest in (the monster) has grown exponentially," said Andrew Smith, 30, peering up at a wooden 10-foot replica of the Braxton County Monster towering over him.

"If it was my guess, I'd say it's what it looks like. It is so strange looking," said Smith, the director of the Braxton County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

He is also the life force behind the bizarre, behemoth chairs that have popped up throughout the county over the summer. At the visitors bureau, Smith put his fine arts degree from Fairmont State University to use, drawing up a rough plan for the monster chair and presenting it to the board in late 2014 ...
