WV KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - Woman Charged in Cold Case

COLD CASE Arrest - The Grafton detachment of the West Virginia State Police has released more details after arresting a Taylor County woman and charging her with first-degree murder, three years after the 2012 death of her husband.

Sergeant Rob Garrison of the WVSP said authorities took Samantha Erin Metzgar, 33, into custody Thursday evening after convening a special grand jury.

During those proceedings, Corporal Daugherty presented evidence obtained by state police and producers from the TNT show "Cold Justice" that, they said, proves that Metzgar killed her husband, Benjamin Cooper, in their Boothsville home in 2012.

Cooper was found with a gunshot wound in the back of his head. Prosecutor John Bord said Cooper was planning to leave his wife, a possible motive in the case. Bord said the couple had been married less than a month.

Garrison said Metzgar originally told investigators that she was in the house when Cooper allegedly shot himself. They found discrepancies in Metzgar's statements and utilized resources made available to them by the TV show.

Metzgar was indicted.
