MINNORA CENTER SELECTS NEW BOARD MEMBERS - Next Meeting December 2

(11/23/2002)
The Minnora Community Center has added seven new board members "adding strength and vitality to keep the center going," according to board member Donna Jordan.

Longtime board member Larry Cottrell submitted his resignation during Monday's meeting.

New members include Kenny Bailey, Molly Cain, Emma Deel, Steve Miller, JoAnn Pauley, Janet Stewart and Jim White. They will join current members Hershel Yost, Donna Jordan, Juanita Boggs and Phil Stevens, managing the center.

"Their knowledge, skills and commitment should assure the center will be run by the community, for the community," said Jordan.

The board discussed high utility bills and the need to conserve energy, in addition to user agreements and rent paid by long term tenants.

A structure for using the facility on a daily basis was discussed, with a range of pricing options. "The goal is to create a more reasonable option for those looking for a facility to hold reunions, meetings, etc.," said Jordan.

The board will be organizing committees to plan and oversee activities, in addition to looking at revising by-laws by the next meeting on December 2 at 7 p.m.

Upcoming events, free to the public, is a Square Dance scheduled for November 29 at 6 p.m. featuring the fiddle playing of Lester McCumbers. A Christmas program is planned for December 20th. Groups from the area are invited to provide holiday entertainment.
