GLENVILLE COLLEGE GETS $231,000 GRANT TO HELP DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS

Two West Virginia colleges will receive federal grants to help students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds succeed in higher education. The U.S. Department of Education recently awarded $23.4 million to more than 100 institutions in 36 states. That's in addition to $270 million for 968 institutions in similar grants announced a month ago. The latest announcement gives grants of $231,000 to Glenville State College and $220,000 to Shepherd University. The release says typical projects under the grants include assisting students with academic tutoring, course selection, financial aid and economic literacy information, and other support and resources. It also can help students transfer from two- to four-year colleges or from undergraduate to graduate or professional studies.
