MINNIE HAMILTON MAKING CHANGES TO SCHOOL BASED HEALTH SERVICES

(08/17/2015)
Minnie Hamilton Health System (MHHS) is pleased to offer school-based health services in your child's school. Licensed healthcare providers are available to provide a multitude of services, including medical, dental and behavioral health.

School based health services work in conjunction with the care provided by your child's regular primary care provider, in delivering a continuum of care. The many benefits of having the services available at your child's school is tremendous.

All children enrolled in the school based health program are eligible to receive services regardless of insurance status. In recent years, many organizations in the State, including MHHS, have received grant funding to provide these services at no obligation to parents/guardians.

However, this year's State budget along with many Federal regulations surrounding the Affordable Care Act, has drastically cut the amount of grant funding available. Without this sustainable funding we are forced to make some changes.

Beginning August 1, 2015 MHHS will no longer be able to waive co-pays associated with medical, dental and behavioral health services. For those that qualify under an income base, we have available a Sliding Fee Program that could help with these costs. This service is available even for those that have insurance and will help reduce the copay and deductibles for these visits.

MHHS will process the visits and bill all applicable insurance and apply Sliding Fee if applicable. If you have questions surrounding the Sliding Fee application process, please contact Sandra Moore at 304-354-9244 extension 1169 or smoore@mhhcc.com. Parent/Guardians will receive a billing statement of their obligation.

As a reminder, you must complete a school based health enrollment form for your child to be eligible to be seen at the school based clinic. An enrollment form are accessible on line at mhhcc.com

School Based Health Centers across the nation are providing access to quality, coordinated health care for over 1.8 million students. School Based Health Centers are truly the front lines tackling the issues that affect young people's lives. MHHS will continue to work hard in providing access to school based health services.

Feel free to contact me at 304-354-9244 or email swhited@mhhcc.com if you have any questions, comments or concerns.

Sincerely,

Stephen Whited, CEO
