A Roane County woman was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with attempted murder for allegedly trying to kill her husband at a Spencer residence.

State Police say they got a call around 1:30 a.m. Sunday about a naked woman running outside of her home in the 100 block of Ann Street in Spencer.

Emmanuela Peyton is in Central Regional Jail, police say she told her husband she thought he was filled with demons and that God told her to kill him.

The woman is also charged with battery on an officer.

Ken Peyton, the husband, told police the couple had been arguing earlier in the morning. He said the argument ended, but a while later she walked up to him and tried to stab him with a knife.

They struggled, but he was able to get the knife away from her. Police say he did suffer a cut to his lip.

Troopers said a Spencer police officer tried to handcuff Peyton, but she tried to fight him off. They were able to take her into custody safely.
