UPDATE: CLAY MAN CHARGED WITH INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHER - Failed To Render Help To Drowning Woman

(08/05/2015)
UPDATE - Kanawha County Prosecutors filed a motion Tuesday in Kanawha County Magistrate Court to drop involuntary manslaughter charges against a man charged in connection with the death of a woman in Clendenin. The state is looking to dismiss the charges against Travis Pozzi, 25, of Bomont, Clay County, for "further investigation," according to the motion filed.

According to a criminal complaint, Travis McCormick Pozzi, 25, of Bomont, West Virginia, did not render aid to Freda Short, whose body was found early Saturday morning in the Elk River.

Short's body was found under a tree branch near where she disappeared late Friday night.

According to the complaint, Pozzi was not under the influence of any substance and was physically able to help Short.

Pozzi told officers he was "freaking out" at the time and drove his girlfriend home to Clay County after the two women had been drinking near the river.

Pozzi told Short's mother that he could not find her, according to the complaint.

The drowning happened near the public water access in Clendenin.
