Ella M. Hackney, 95, of Ripley, West Virginia, formerly of Walton, died Sunday, November 17,
2002, in the Miletree Center, Spencer, WV.
She was born May 16, 1905, in Roane County, a daughter of the late James and Caroline
Cosby Hill Carpenter. She was a homemaker and attended Wolfe Valley Church, Wolfe
Valley.
Survivors include one son, Raymond Hackney of Kenna, WV; one daughter, Evelyn Crihfield of
Ripley; 13 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. Hackney; five
sons, Billy Mitchell, Clair, Orville, Clifford and Carroll Hackney; two brothers, Willy and Owens
Carpenter; two half brothers; four sisters, Clara Hargus, Blanche Harris, Ona Moffatt and
Minnie Harper.
A funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, November 20, at 1 p.m. in the John H.
Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, WV, with Pastor Darrell Tacket officiating. Burial will be in
the Davis Cemetery, Cicerone.
