WV KNIFE AND GUN CLUB - Store Employee, Customer Foil Female Armed Robber

(07/28/2015)
TAKEN-DOWN - Court records say a store employee and customer fought with a female suspect attempting to rob a Hurricane business and were able to fend her off until police arrived.

Allissa Ann Vanpelt is charged with armed robbery following an incident that occurred about 8 a.m. Monday at the New Orleans Coffee House, according to a criminal complaint filed in Putnam County Magistrate Court.

When an officer arrived at the scene, an employee and the suspect were still fighting on the floor of the business near the front counter. The officer restrained the suspect and placed her in handcuffs.

Emergency medical services was called to treat the suspect, employee and a customer at the scene for minor injuries.

Police said Vanpelt walked into the store wearing a toboggan and had a black bandana covering her face. They said she placed a note on the counter and used her hand under her shirt to appear she was armed with a handgun.

Witnesses said Vanpelt then went behind the counter and attempted to gain access to the cash register before going into the kitchen area where the money box was located.

She then grabbed the money box before the employee attempted to stop her, the complaint said. When the suspect attempted to escape with the money, the employee began fighting with the suspect. The customer and employee were injured during the fracas.

Police said they recovered the toboggan, bandana and a note at the scene. The note was written on a small piece of white paper that appeared to be from an envelope and said, "NO Less than $1500. Hands, where I can see them."

Vanpelt was arrested, taken to the police department for processing and then transported to the Putnam County Courthouse for arraignment.

CHARLESTON STABBING - A Charleston man was taken to the hospital Monday evening after being stabbed twice.

According to Charleston Police on the scene in the Kanawha City area of Charleston, the victim's injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

It happened at the Go-Mart Truck Stop, just east of the interstate, outside of the Go-Mart store.
