FORMER SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS PAUL SIEGRIST HAS DIED

Former Calhoun and Ritchie County Superintendent of Schools, James Paul Siegrist of Creston, has died.

Siegrist joined the Army Air Force during WWII right out of high school and was an engineer and gunner on B-24s while stationed in Italy. He was a bomber up into Germany with the 15th Bomber Wing.

After the war, he attended Glenville State College, and played football and basketball.

He finished his degree at Concord College and was a teacher and coach at Pearisburg High School, Pearisburg, VA.

He worked as a chemist and chemical engineer for a several years and then moved back to Calhoun County and worked at Rubber Fabricators.

Returning to teaching, he taught at Morristown Elementary, and then entered school administration. He later stepped down and finished out his teaching years as a biology and conservation teacher at Calhoun County High School.

He retired in 1986 to their farm at Annamoriah Flats, where he was an avid gardener and enjoyed the outdoors.
