CALHOUN CABIN DWELLER GEORGE HERR PASSES - "Best Thing I Like, My Neighbors"

(06/25/2015)
Chloe area resident George J. Herr, 85, an Ohio native, has passed.

Herr moved to Calhoun in 1995, purchasing and restoring the historic John Arnold cabin, calling it his "piece of paradise."

The log cabin was built in a valley between Walnut and Upper Nicut in 1879. The log house has some of the largest hewn timbers ever seen in a cabin.

In an interview with the Herald in 2010, Herr said he has never regretted moving to the narrow valley, putting in hundreds and hundreds of hours on the property. "But the best thing is, I like the people. I have great neighbors," he said.

Visitation will be held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg on Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 6-8 p.m.
