This summer's Energy Express Reading and Nutrition program begins Monday, June 22nd at Arnoldsburg Elementary School. The program is still accepting child applications for this summer, call Joe Overbaugh at 304-655-8618 ext. 114.

Energy Express involves the children in many art projects and uses a variety of "found objects". As the name suggests, these objects can be most anything that can be used for art projects, cotton balls, feathers, Popsicle sticks, clothespins, yarn, pipe cleaners, paper plates, etc. Any and all found objects that are donated are greatly needed and appreciated.

Through a combination of healthy breakfasts, lunches and learning activities, the Energy Express program continues to improve the lives of children in Calhoun County. This year, however, a new program has been added to Calhoun's summer repertoire.

Save the Children, a program dedicated to giving children "a healthy start on life, the opportunity to learn, and protection from harm" will be added in the afternoon.

This year's programs will begin on Monday, June 22. More than 50 children from Calhoun will participate in these summer programs. This year, Energy Express/Save the Children will be hosted at a new location at Arnoldsburg Elementary School.

The site team is looking forward to the change in venue and having a successful summer of learning and fun. The team itself will complete over 2400 hours of service this summer and encourages anyone to come out and help boost those number of hours.

This year's site supervisor is Joseph Overbaugh. He is a 2011 Calhoun High graduate and is currently attending Glenville State College. He is pursuing a degree in Science Education along with a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry. When asked what he was most excited about for Energy Express, he said, "I am very excited to be at our new site at Arnoldsburg Elementary School! I have one of the best groups of mentors a person could ask for and I know that we are going to have a great summer of reading and fun."

This year's community coordinator is Stewart Fitzwater. He is also a 2011 Calhoun High graduate and is also attending Glenville State College. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resource Management. "I'm looking forward to being a part of this years' programs. I strongly encourage anyone to come out and help us make this summer the best it can be. We need all the help we can get!"

Each mentor of Energy Express will be featured in the Calhoun Chronicle each week. Please look for those mentors to see what is happening here at Energy Express.
