Commission and school board canvass ballots yesterday

The Calhoun Commission and the Calhoun County Board of Education canvassed the ballots from last week's general election yesterday morning. The school board participated because they sponsored the local library levy.

County Clerk Richard Kirby said the canvass went well, with an accurate audit of votes cast. The general election will be officially certified Thursday at 4 p.m. with both bodies in attendance.

Circuit Clerk Shelia Garretson reported 178 people voted absentee, mostly "no excuse" ballots.
