UPDATE: STATE TROOPERS INJURED PURSUING ESCAPEE ON RT. 16

(06/18/2015)
UPDATE - West Virginia State Police said two troopers injured along with a suspect in Clay County in vehicle crashes have been released from the hospital.

Police say the two troopers, who have not been identified, are home recovering after the incident that occurred about 1:30 p.m. Monday on Route 16 near Big Otter.

The suspect, Lloyd Rapp, has been released from the hospital and is being held at the South Central Regional Jail.

Rapp had escaped from a holding cell at Clay Magistrate Court.

ORIGINAL STORY 6/16/15 - Two West Virginia State Police troopers are being treated for injuries at a Charleston hospital they suffered in a traffic accident Monday afternoon on State Route 16 near Big Otter.

Their injuries were reported to be non-life threatening.

WVSP spokesman Lt. Michael Baylous said the troopers from the Clay detachment were traveling on the highway when they noticed a passing motorcyclist that appeared to be Lloyd Rapp, a man they've been looking for since May 13.

Rapp (left) had escaped from a defective holding cell at Clay County Magistrate Court.

Rapp, who is on federal probation, was arrested for misdemeanor drug charges.

"As they turned around to go verify it-when they caught up him-he had crashed and was out in the middle of the roadway there and when they swerved to miss him they crashed as well," Baylous said.

"They went over into a ditch. There was a hillside there and some kind of retaining wall," Baylous said.

A report on Rapp's condition was not available.

The troopers names have not been released.
