MINNIE HAMILTON HEALTH SYSTEM RAISES OVER $17,500 - Through Give Local MOV To Benefit Care Center

(06/13/2015)
Grantsville, WV - The Parkersburg Area Community Foundation (PACF) announced today that over $218,606 was raised through Give Local MOV, the 24-hour online giving challenge hosted by PACF on May 5th. Of that amount, $17,592 was raised to benefit Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center, Inc. dba, Minnie Hamilton Health System (MHHS).

"MHHS' participation in Give Local MOV marks a beginning point of an idea that began many years ago," commented MHHS' CEO, Steve Whited. "Since our opening in 1959, our Grantsville facility has seen countless changes to fit the varying needs of the community, and we have risen to each challenge to make the changes happen. The biggest change is yet to come, and we need the communities help to make it a reality. Needless to say, our facilities are the backbone of our towns and communities; not only from a healthcare aspect, but also economically.

MHHS is the region's largest employer and provides over 275 jobs and over $14 million annually in local salaries. Some of our everyday challenges include: regulatory burdens, replacement of outdated/hard to find/and expensive materials, and the ability to expand to needed services in the community due to space restrictions, etc.

It is imperative that we build a new facility in order to continue meeting the needs of our patients into the foreseeable future. We have determined that we need to raise upwards $2 million to make the project feasible. The funds raised through Give Local MOV will go towards this goal."

A key benefit of giving to the participating nonprofits on May 5th was the availability of matching funds. PACF raised more than $118,000 which was awarded through matching fund challenges and prize contests over the 24-hour giving period. Several regional sponsors, led by Superior Toyota and the PM Company, supplied $56,000 in matching funds, several individuals/businesses offered private challenges to specific organizations totaling $19,000, and $1,500 in hourly prize incentives encouraged giving.

Additionally, PACF provided $42,000 to help grow each nonprofits permanent charitable fund. PACF also supplied the secure online giving platform and covered credit card processing fees, allowing 100% of each donor's gift to go to its intended agency. Of the $17, 592 that MHHS received through Give Local MOV, $4512 came from matching funds and prizes.

"On behalf of MHHS, I want to thank the PACF, and all the donors who made Give Local MOV successful for our organization," said Whited. "We have been very fortunate to be involved with the PACF and have received numerous grants through their Community Action Grant Program to help purchase such things as mammography machines upgrades, patient furniture, and community outreach/youth education. Give Local MOV is another example of how a partnership with the Community Foundation can make a positive impact for our area. We are proud of our community, our people and our facilities."

The Little Kanawha Area Community Foundation (LKACF) is a PACF affiliate and works in collaboration to build resources specifically dedicated for Calhoun, Gilmer and Wirt Counties. "We're very proud of the accomplishment of Minnie Hamilton during Give Local MOV 2015. Our area's health center was the #1 participant with its supporters raising funds far exceeding those of others in larger communities. Our Advisory Board congratulates Minnie Hamilton on this great achievement and for putting our area on the top of the leaderboard in giving," said Jim Bennett, LKACF affiliate advisory committee chair.

"Our event sponsors and the local donors who contribute are the critical factors in the success of Give Local MOV ," said Julie Boyce, PACF's Development and Communications Officer. "Our local businesses truly stepped up this year and enabled us to make an incredible impact region-wide.

And, local businesses are only able to support positive initiatives, such as Give Local MOV, if they themselves have support from local residents. By supporting local businesses and shopping local, you can help provide for the greater good of our community. We urge everyone to give local and to shop local!"

PACF plans to again host Give Local MOV in May 2016 and is already seeking partners. Individuals, nonprofits, or businesses interested in having a significant impact for their investment and to get involved in Give Local MOV 2016 should contact the Foundation office at 304-428-4438 to learn more.
