NEW WV DRIVING LAW GOES INTO EFFECT JUNE 11

(06/11/2015)
A law passed during the 2015 legislative session allowing West Virginia drivers the option of showing digital proof of insurance goes into effect June 11.

Many car insurance companies now have mobile phone apps available allowing customers to show proof of insurance.

"I am pleased that West Virginia will join a majority of other states that allow electronic proof of insurance," Delegate Steve Westfall, R-Jackson, said in a press release.

"West Virginia drivers will no longer have to rely on a paper certification of insurance. They will now have the convenience to utilize an app on their phone." "Overall, this will ease the burden on West Virginia drivers as well as the members of law enforcement," Westfall continued. "With this law going into effect it will reduce the strain on the court system and will be a benefit to our local law enforcement officials and magistrates."

More than 35 other states have adopted similar laws.
